How a splice works

01A reel is a loop of N frames. A frame is either exposed (bright) or unexposed (dark). The bench shows the target pattern you must match exactly.
02push and pull slide the whole strip one frame right or left. The strip is a loop, so what falls off one end comes back on the other.
03burn inverts a fixed window of frames. Pick the splicer to burn and tap a frame on your strip: the window starts there and runs right.
04From Chapter II, split swaps the two halves of the strip in one cut. From Chapter III, the invert splicer flips one tapped frame.
05Every move costs exactly one cut, and every move can be undone: push answers pull, burn, split and invert answer themselves. A reel never jams.
06Par is the fewest cuts from the opening strip to the bench frame, found by an exact search over every state of the reel. The meter marks it.
07Three cue marks at par, two within two extra cuts, one beyond. Nothing ever locks you out - resplicing from the top is free.
08Splices buy looks in the supply locker. Nothing there changes how a strip cuts.
